MANCHESTER, England — Manchester City has made yet another addition to their defensive lineup by signing young left-back Christian McFarlane, an 18-year-old talent, during the January transfer window. His transfer was finalized on Monday from their sister club, New York City FC.

McFarlane has been with New York City FC since he was 11 years old, progressing through the club’s youth system and ultimately making his debut with the first team last year. Originally hailing from England, he has represented the national squad at both the under-16 and under-17 levels, even participating in the European Under-17 Championship last year.

In a statement issued by New York City FC, McFarlane expressed his excitement about joining Manchester City, referring to the opportunity as a “dream come true.” He mentioned that he had previously visited the facilities of the Premier League champions and had met some of the players, which added to his enthusiasm for the move.

“I understand this transfer will be crucial for my growth as a player,” he commented in the statement. “I’m eager to take on this challenge and fully embrace this new chapter.” The financial details of the transfer were not disclosed, and Manchester City has yet to officially confirm the transaction.

This recent signing follows City’s acquisition of two center-backs earlier in January: 19-year-old Vitor Reis from Palmeiras and 20-year-old Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens. Additionally, Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush was signed from Eintracht Frankfurt, bringing Manchester City’s total expenditure for this transfer window to around $150 million before McFarlane’s integration.

Both Khusanov and Marmoush made their debuts during a recent 3-1 victory over Chelsea in the Premier League, although Khusanov faced difficulties in the match, committing an error that led to a goal and receiving a yellow card within the first four minutes.

New York City FC announced that they will be entitled to a percentage of any future sale involving McFarlane.
