OBERHOF, Germany – Max Langenhan from Germany reclaimed the lead in the World Cup men’s singles standings this Sunday after achieving his best result of the season with a third victory.
Felix Loch, also from Germany, finished in second place, while Austria’s Nico Gleirscher secured the third spot. Prior to Sunday’s race, Langenhan and Gleirscher were tied for the top position in the standings, but Langenhan now holds a 40-point advantage over his rival.
The highest-ranked competitor from the U.S. was Tucker West, who ended the event in 10th place.
In the mixed doubles World Cup competition, German teams dominated, with Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt along with Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal taking home gold medals. The second position was claimed by Austria, while Italy finished third. The top U.S. team, made up of Marcus Mueller and Ansel Haugsjaa, along with Chevonne Forgan and Sophie Kirkby, finished in fifth place.
Germany also celebrated victory in the mixed singles World Cup race. Felix Loch and Marie Fraebel managed to fend off competitors Max Langenhan and Julia Taubitz to secure the win, while Austria’s Gleirscher and Lisa Schulte finished in third.
For the U.S., West and Ashley Farquharson ranked fifth in the mixed singles event.
In St. Moritz, Switzerland, the scheduled races for two-woman and four-man bobsleds were canceled due to inadequate track conditions.
The St. Moritz track stands out on the World Cup sliding circuit as it is constructed annually from ice and snow and does not utilize concrete for artificial refrigeration. Temperatures did not drop below freezing overnight on Saturday, preventing the track from solidifying properly for Sunday’s racing.
It remains uncertain whether the canceled races will be rescheduled at another venue later in the season.
Looking ahead, the bobsled events will include the World Cup monobob and two-man bobsled races, which are scheduled for February 8 in Lillehammer, Norway.
The luge world championships will feature mixed singles and mixed doubles competitions on February 6 in Whistler, Canada, while the skeleton world cup season finales for both men and women will take place on February 7 in Lillehammer.
