In a thrilling matchup on Saturday night, Northwestern State managed to secure a narrow 57-54 victory over Stephen F. Austin in Huntsville, Texas. Addison Patterson led the Demons with an impressive performance, contributing 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
The turning point came during overtime when JT Warren executed a crucial three-point play, helping Northwestern State to a 54-51 advantage with just over two minutes remaining. With only three seconds left on the clock, Love Bettis converted two free throws to solidify the win, while Chrishawn Christmas had the opportunity to even the score for SFA but missed a critical three-pointer.
For the Demons, Micah Thomas supported the team with 10 points, and Bettis contributed eight points to the overall effort. This victory improved Northwestern State’s season record to 10 wins and 10 losses, as well as a conference record of 6-3 in the Southland Conference.
On the other side, Kyle Hayman was the standout player for the Lumberjacks, leading his team with 15 points, seven boards, and two steals. Myles Jenkins followed with nine points, and Christmas added eight points along with three blocks.
Regulation was capped off with a clutch 3-pointer from Matt Hayman, which brought the game to a tie at 49, ultimately leading the teams into overtime.
