Rataj nets 30 points as Oregon State outlasts Santa Clara 83-69

CORVALLIS, Oregon — Michael Rataj delivered an impressive performance, scoring 30 points to propel Oregon State to an 83-69 victory over Santa Clara on Saturday night.

Rataj also contributed six rebounds for the Beavers, who now hold a record of 16-6 overall and 6-3 in the West Coast Conference. Nate Kingz supported the team’s effort with 16 points on an efficient shooting performance, hitting 6 of 9 shots from the floor, including 1 of 3 from beyond the arc and a perfect 3 for 3 from the free-throw line. He also grabbed five rebounds. Damarco Minor added 10 points, going 4 of 7 from the field, with one of those makes coming from three-point territory.

For the Broncos, who have a record of 14-8 and 6-3 in conference play, Adama Bal was the standout scorer with 13 points, while also dishing out five assists and making two steals. Johnny O’Neil contributed 11 points, secured six rebounds, and blocked two shots. Christoph Tilly chipped in with 10 points to round out Santa Clara’s scoring efforts.

Oregon State seized the lead with 8:59 remaining in the first half and maintained control for the rest of the game. Rataj was instrumental in the first half, leading the Beavers with eight points, which helped the team go into halftime with a narrow 32-30 lead. In the second half, Oregon State pulled away decisively, launching a 13-2 run that expanded their lead from two points to 13. They wound up outscoring Santa Clara by 12 points in the final period, with Rataj showcasing his skills by scoring a remarkable 22 points in that half.

Looking ahead, Oregon State is set to face Gonzaga on the road this Tuesday, while Santa Clara will host Saint Mary’s (CA) on Wednesday.
