AKRON, Ohio — In an impressive display of skill, Tavari Johnson contributed significantly to Akron’s commanding 102-75 victory against Miami (OH) on Saturday, scoring 15 points along with six assists for the Zips, who now boast a record of 14-5 and remain undefeated in the Mid-American Conference at 7-0.

Nate Johnson also shined for Akron, finishing with 14 points, seven rebounds, and four steals. Meanwhile, Seth Wilson was particularly effective from beyond the three-point line, shooting 4 out of 5 and also scoring 14 points. This latest win marks the Zips’ seventh consecutive victory.

On the opposing side, the RedHawks, who hold a 14-5 record and a 6-1 conference standing, saw Peter Suder lead their effort with 18 points and two steals. Brant Byers contributed 14 points along with two steals, and Evan Ipsaro added 12 points and two steals for Miami (OH). This loss brought an end to their remarkable eight-game winning streak.

The Zips seized control of the game early, grabbing the lead with 15:27 left in the first half and maintaining their advantage throughout. At halftime, Akron led 52-28 with Tavari Johnson having contributed nine points by that point. The team’s momentum continued in the second half, as they executed a dominant 16-3 run that expanded their lead from 24 points to a staggering 37 points. In the second half alone, Wilson led the Zips with eight points, helping them outscore Miami (OH) by three points in the final frame.

Both teams are set to play again on Tuesday, with Akron heading to Northern Illinois and Miami (OH) facing Eastern Michigan at their home court.
