A man from Florida has been taken into custody after allegedly making online threats against former President Donald Trump, local authorities announced on Saturday.

Shannon Depararra Atkins, 46, was apprehended on Friday night following a tip received by the FBI’s threat center, according to a statement from the West Palm Beach police department. He faces a charge for making threats which could include plans to kill, inflict physical harm, or conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism through written or electronic means.

During a routine traffic stop, Atkins was also discovered to have cocaine in his possession, which resulted in additional charges related to drug possession. As of Saturday, he remains in custody without bond. The public defender’s office assigned to his case was unavailable for comments due to its closure over the weekend.

Details surrounding the specific online threats reportedly made by Atkins have not yet been disclosed. Interestingly, he resides just a few miles away from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, although there have been no reports indicating he attempted to approach the location.

According to West Palm Beach police officials, it will be up to the Secret Service to decide if any federal charges should be brought against Atkins based on the ongoing investigation.
