PROVIDENCE, R.I. — In an exciting match on Saturday, Bensley Joseph led the Providence Friars to a 78-68 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas, contributing 14 points along with six rebounds. The Friars, now with a record of 10-10 and 4-5 in the Big East Conference, saw another key performer in Jayden Pierre. Pierre also scored 14 points, shooting efficiently at 7-for-12 but struggled a bit from long range, missing all five of his three-point attempts. Jabri Abdur-Rahim made a significant impact as well, netting 12 points with a strong performance by shooting 2-for-3 from beyond the arc and completing all six of his free throw attempts.
For the Hoyas, who stand at 13-7 and share a 4-5 conference record, Micah Peavy emerged as the leading scorer, posting an impressive 27 points. His teammate, Thomas Sorber, also had a notable game, contributing 25 points alongside 15 rebounds, two steals, and three blocks. Malik Mack added to the scoreboard with eight points for Georgetown.
The first half concluded with Providence maintaining a slight edge over Georgetown at 38-33. Before halftime, Pierre was the key player for the Friars, having scored 12 points. A pivotal moment in the second half came when Christ Essandoko delivered a crucial 3-pointer with just under 12 minutes remaining, allowing Providence to take the lead for good at 47-45.
As both teams prepare for their upcoming games, Providence is set to take on Seton Hall, while Georgetown will host St. John’s this Tuesday.
