Scottie Scheffler set to compete and officially registers for Pebble Beach

Scottie Scheffler has announced his participation in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am next week. This marks his return to competition after a six-week recovery period necessitated by a puncture wound to his right hand, which he sustained while preparing Christmas dinner.

Scheffler expressed earlier this week that his recovery was going well and he was eager to rejoin the competition, but he emphasized that he would not rush his return unnecessarily.

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am features the largest field among the $20 million signature events, hosting 80 players. This large contingent is due to the inclusion of amateur participants competing over two days at Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill. Last year, Scheffler finished tied for sixth in the tournament, which was shortened to 54 holes because of severe weather conditions, including heavy rain and wind that resulted in road closures.

This upcoming contest will be Scheffler’s first since his victory at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas on December 8, where he triumphed for the second consecutive year. Additionally, he collaborated with Rory McIlroy on December 17 in Las Vegas to win a specially televised format against LIV Golf stars Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau, completing the match in only 14 holes.

Normally, Scheffler tends to take a break after the season, focusing on lower body workouts while still engaging in social golf. However, this time, he was unable to swing a club as he recuperated from surgery that removed glass from his hand.

“It was definitely unusual for me to be limited in my gym workouts,” noted Scheffler, who concentrated on his lower body fitness until he was ready to resume activities.

Unfortunately, he had to forgo The Sentry at Kapalua and The American Express in California last week. While he did not specify when he began practicing again, he is also a two-time winner of the WM Phoenix Open, scheduled for the week following the Pebble Beach event.

The tournament begins on Thursday, launching what is anticipated to be a closely monitored season for the FedEx Cup champion. Scheffler is coming off an impressive season, with nine tournament victories including an Olympic gold medal and another green jacket from the Masters. Furthermore, he achieved the historic feat of winning The Players Championship in consecutive years.

Another prominent player returning to Pebble Beach is Jordan Spieth, a three-time major champion and former world number one, who underwent surgery on his left wrist after the initial event of the FedEx Cup postseason.
