UIC secures a 78-67 victory over Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Jordan Mason contributed significantly to the UIC Flames’ victory over the Evansville Purple Aces with a total of 19 points in a game that ended 78-67 on Wednesday night.

Mason also recorded five assists for the Flames, who improved their record to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Ahmad Henderson II was another key player for UIC, scoring 16 points while shooting 6 of 9 from the field, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. Modestas Kancleris added to the team’s effort by finishing with 11 points, making 5 of his 7 attempts from the field, though he struggled at the free-throw line by hitting only 1 of 3.

For the Purple Aces, Tayshawn Comer was the top scorer, netting 18 points while dishing out eight assists. Gabriel Pozzato had a solid performance as well, contributing 13 points, along with six rebounds and five assists. Joshua Hughes also played a role in the scoring with 12 points.

Henderson shined in the first half, scoring 16 points and powering UIC to a strong halftime lead of 47-32. Mason was the standout in the second half, leading the team with 11 points to secure the victory.

Both teams are set to compete again on Saturday, with UIC scheduled to face Southern Illinois at home and Evansville traveling to take on Valparaiso.
