Robinson tallies 33 points as Mercer edges UNC Greensboro 79-78

Ahmad Robinson had an outstanding performance, scoring a total of 33 points, which included two crucial free throws with just seven seconds remaining, helping Mercer to overcome UNC Greensboro with a narrow victory of 79-78 on Wednesday evening.

Mercer found itself in a challenging position, trailing 67-54 with only 7:30 left on the clock. Robinson didn’t just shine offensively, he also contributed significantly in other areas, finishing the game with five rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Alongside Robinson, Tyler Johnson added 17 points to the team’s tally, hitting 7 of 15 shots overall, including 3 of 9 from three-point range, while also grabbing seven rebounds. Marcus Overstreet made a solid impact as well, shooting 5 of 6 from the field and going a perfect 3 for 3 from the free-throw line, totaling 13 points.

For the Spartans, who now have a record of 12-8 and 5-2 in the conference, Ronald Polite was a standout player, leading the team with 20 points, complemented by eight rebounds and five assists. Demetrius Davis, holding his ground as well, contributed with a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, while Joryam Saizonou also netted 11 points for UNC Greensboro.

Both teams are set to return to the court on Saturday, with Mercer gearing up to host Furman, while UNC Greensboro will be on the road facing off against VMI.
