NEW YORK — Authorities in New York City have apprehended an individual in connection with the fatal beating of a notable rock artist in the Bronx.

Sharief Bodden, aged 29, was charged on Friday for the murder of Peter Forrest, a 64-year-old local resident known for his work as P. Fluid, the lead vocalist of the band 24/7 Spyz.

This Bronx-based band was part of a significant movement of Black rock musicians that arose in the 1980s, alongside groups like Living Colour and Fishbone. These bands fused various musical styles, including heavy metal, funk, R&B, and punk.

Among their well-known tracks is a reimagining of Kool & the Gang’s classic “Jungle Boogie.” Forrest left the band during a 1990 tour with Jane’s Addiction, as reported by various music outlets.

The Black Rock Coalition, a collective of artists based in New York, honored Forrest, describing him as a crucial component to a groundbreaking band in their history. This collective was established by Vernon Reid of Living Colour and fellow Black artists.
