WORCESTER, Mass. — In an exciting matchup on Saturday, Greg Jones contributed significantly to American University’s 74-65 victory over Holy Cross, scoring a total of 21 points.
Alongside his scoring, Jones grabbed seven rebounds, showcasing his all-around performance for the Eagles, who are improving their record to 10-9 overall and 4-2 within the Patriot League. Elijah Stephens also made a notable impact, adding 16 points to the scoreboard while shooting 60% from the field (6 of 10), including two three-pointers. Matt Rogers chipped in with 10 points, hitting 50% of his field goal attempts and making two of five three-point attempts.
Max Green was the standout scorer for Holy Cross, finishing the game with 24 points and pulling down six rebounds. DeAndre Williams contributed 15 points, while Joe Nugent registered eight points and recorded two steals for the Crusaders, who now hold a record of 10-9 and 2-4 in conference play.
American took control of the game early, establishing a lead with 15:43 remaining in the first half and maintaining that advantage throughout. By halftime, the score stood at 26-20, with Stephens contributing seven points. Jones took charge in the second half, netting 19 points and playing a crucial role in solidifying the Eagles’ nine-point victory.
Both teams are scheduled to compete again on Wednesday, as American is set to host Lehigh while Holy Cross will take on Army.
