CJ Gunn contributed significantly to DePaul’s victory over Georgetown, scoring 17 points in a close contest that ended with a score of 73-68 on Friday night.
This triumph marked an important turnaround for the Blue Demons, breaking a five-game losing streak and improving their record to 10-9 overall and 1-7 in the Big East Conference. Alongside Gunn, Layden Blocker stood out by netting 14 points, making 4 of his 8 shots, including 2 out of 3 from beyond the arc, and hitting all 4 free-throw attempts. N.J. Benson also played a key role, shooting 5 for 6 from the field on his way to scoring 12 points.
On the opposing side, the Hoyas, who now hold a record of 12-6 and 3-4 in the conference, saw Drew Fielder leading the charge with 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Malik Mack also made a significant contribution with 19 points, complemented by 6 assists and 2 steals, while Caleb Williams chipped in with 10 points and 6 boards.
DePaul entered halftime with a solid 39-28 lead over Georgetown, thanks in part to Blocker’s strong performance, where he tallied 14 points during that period. In a critical moment, he scored the final six points for DePaul, which helped secure their hard-fought five-point win.
Looking ahead, DePaul is set to face Creighton at home on Tuesday, while Georgetown will be on the road to take on Villanova on Monday.
