Capital One is facing ongoing service outages as of Friday, leading to customer dissatisfaction over the inability to access their deposits.
As of 8:04 a.m. Eastern time, there were nearly 3,400 outage reports compiled by Downdetector, an increase from about 2,100 reports noted early Thursday. Most of the issues seemed to originate from the eastern part of the U.S., but problems have also been reported in western states like Arizona and California.
The bank indicated that 90% of the issues flagged by customers were related to deposit access. Reported problems involving account balances accounted for 7%, while difficulties with online logins made up 3%.
In an update, Capital One explained that the service disruption affecting deposit processing, payments, and transfers began on Wednesday. This was attributed to a technical glitch with one of its service providers. The company issued an apology for the inconvenience and communicated that it is actively working with the provider to rectify the situation. Capital One reassured customers that once the systems were back up and running, all delayed transactions, including deposits, would be processed.
Despite these reassurances, numerous customers continue to express frustration. Complaints are prevalent on the company’s customer service account on X (formerly known as Twitter).
One user inquired, “Do you guys have an ETA yet? I still don’t have my direct deposit,” on Friday morning. Another customer expressed their concerns, saying, “You’d better set realistic expectations and be honest with your customers or you’re going to ruin your reputation and your business.”
