PARIS — Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has made the anticipated transition from Napoli to Paris Saint-Germain, finalizing a contract that will keep him at the club until 2029. This announcement came on Friday when PSG confirmed the deal, which is notable as the team looks to enhance its roster after losing key players in the offseason.

The 23-year-old forward from Georgia expressed his joy about joining the reigning French champions, stating, “It’s a dream to be here. I’ve heard a lot of very positive things about Paris Saint-Germain. I feel immense pride in joining.” His medical examination in Paris preceded the formal confirmation of the transfer, which had previously been reported by the French press.

While precise financial details were not disclosed, reports suggest that the transfer fee could be around 70 million euros (approximately $72 million), not including any potential bonuses. This move follows Kvaratskhelia’s heartfelt farewell to Napoli fans, who affectionately referred to him as “Kvaradona,” a nod to the legendary Diego Maradona, who is celebrated as the club’s greatest player. Kvaratskhelia played a vital role in helping Napoli clinch the Serie A title in 2023, marking the club’s first championship in over three decades.

Napoli’s coach, Antonio Conte, had confirmed last weekend that Kvaratskhelia was eager to seek a new opportunity. With Kylian Mbappe’s departure to Real Madrid, PSG aims to bolster its offense, and Kvaratskhelia’s skill set, which includes scoring, dribbling, and providing assists, should reinvigorate the team’s attacking dynamics.

PSG’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi praised Kvaratskhelia as “one of the most exciting players in world football,” highlighting his extraordinary talent and dedication. “I know he will achieve all his goals with us. We are delighted to be strengthening our squad,” Al-Khelaifi remarked.

Kvaratskhelia previously shone on the international stage with the Georgian national team, making a significant impact during last year’s European Championship alongside fellow wingers such as Georges Mikautadze from Lyon and Zuriko Davitashvili from Saint-Etienne. Having netted 30 goals in 107 matches for Napoli, Kvaratskhelia demonstrated impressive synergy with striker Victor Osimhen, contributing to the team’s memorable title-winning season, reminiscent of the glory days when Maradona led the squad to success in 1990.
