BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU’s backup quarterback Colin Hurley has been admitted to the hospital after his vehicle collided with an oak tree near the university early Thursday morning. According to a family statement shared by the university, his condition has been labeled as “stable.”

Hurley, a freshman hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, has not yet participated in a game for the Tigers. Reports indicate that he was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat but still breathing when first responders from the Baton Rouge Fire Department arrived at the scene shortly before 3 a.m. The documentation from emergency personnel was obtained by local news outlet WBRZ-TV.

LSU Police were also on the scene but did not provide comments regarding the reason behind the crash. The police stated their report will remain unavailable to the public for a period of seven to ten days. Additionally, LSU officials chose to redirect inquiries to Hurley’s family, who are managing communications due to his status as a minor.

In a statement, the family expressed their gratitude, saying, “Colin would like to thank the first responders, the incredible doctors and nurses at Our Lady of the Lake Health, and the many Tiger Fans for their care and compassion.” They added that Colin is currently resting and stable as further tests and treatment take place, expressing optimism about his full recovery from this unfortunate incident.
