EDINBURGH, Scotland — Scotland’s rugby team has added another talent, known as a “Kilted Kiwi,” to its roster.

On Wednesday, Fergus Burke, a flyhalf born in New Zealand, was announced as part of the expanded 37-player squad for the upcoming Six Nations tournament, slated to kick off next month.

The 25-year-old Burke currently competes for Saracens, having made the move to the English club last year after previously playing with the Crusaders in New Zealand. During his time with the Crusaders, he was seen as a promising player under the guidance of Richie Mo’unga.

Burke has the potential to represent multiple national teams. He qualifies to play for the All Blacks, thanks to his New Zealand birth, and has the option to compete for England through his English mother. Additionally, he is eligible for Scotland due to his grandfather, who hails from Glasgow.

Opting to represent Scotland, Burke could feature in the national team’s opening Six Nations match against Italy on February 1.

The Scottish squad already boasts a notable flyhalf in Finn Russell, indicating a strong depth in this key position.
