WICHITA, Kan. — Corey Washington contributed significantly to Wichita State’s victory over Charlotte with an impressive 16 points during the game on Tuesday night, leading to a final score of 68-59.
Washington also showcased his skills on the boards, pulling down seven rebounds for the Shockers, who now hold a record of 11-6 overall and 1-3 within the American Athletic Conference. Alongside Washington, Harlond Beverly also played a key role, scoring 12 points while securing five rebounds. Xavier Bell added to the team’s efforts by contributing 10 points; however, his shooting was less than ideal as he made only three out of twelve field goal attempts and converted three of five free throws.
On the opposing side, the 49ers were led in scoring by Nik Graves, who netted 13 points. Giancarlo Rosado also made an impact by scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and four assists. Rich Rolf supported the offense with eight points of his own. Unfortunately for Charlotte, this game extended their losing streak to six consecutive defeats, leaving them with a record of 7-11 and 0-5 in conference play.
Wichita State gained momentum in the first half, taking the lead with 5:19 remaining before halftime and maintaining their advantage thereafter. The halftime score stood at 31-27, with Washington earning 11 of his points by that time. As the second half commenced, Wichita State increased their lead from four to twelve points following an 8-0 run, bringing the score to 49-37 with about 10:28 left to play. Ronnie DeGray III was also instrumental in the second half, adding eight points to the scoreboard for his team.
