Johnson’s 28 points propel Akron past Toledo 85-78

Akron, Ohio – Nate Johnson showcased an impressive performance, scoring 28 points to help lead the Akron Zips to an 85-78 victory over Toledo on Tuesday night.

Johnson also contributed significantly by grabbing nine rebounds and making four steals during the game, displaying a well-rounded skill set.

Alongside him, Amani Lyles added 16 points and secured five rebounds, while Shammah Scott pitched in with 12 points, making 5 of 9 shots, including 2 for 5 from three-point range.

On the opposing side, Isaiah Adams was the standout performer for the Toledo Rockets, scoring 17 points and blocking two shots.

Javan Simmons also made a notable contribution for the Rockets with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Sam Lewis finished the game with 14 points to support his team.

Despite Johnson’s strong start, where he scored 13 points in the first half, the Zips found themselves trailing 42-30 at halftime.

In an impressive second-half resurgence, Lyles stepped up, scoring 16 points to aid in the comeback and secure the win for Akron.

Looking ahead, Akron will be playing against Ohio at home on Friday, while Toledo prepares for their matchup against Ball State on Saturday.
