Donovan Dent contributed significantly to New Mexico’s victory over San Diego State, scoring 16 points in a game that ended 62-48 on Saturday.
Along with his scoring, Dent showcased his all-around game with five assists and three steals for the Lobos, who now boast an impressive record of 14-3, including a perfect 6-0 in the Mountain West Conference.
Tru Washington also had a solid performance, adding 13 points and five rebounds, while Mustapha Amzil chipped in with 10 points. This win marked the Lobos’ seventh consecutive victory.
For the Aztecs, who hold a record of 10-4 and 3-2 in conference play, Miles Byrd was the standout performer. He scored 14 points and made three steals. Jared Coleman-Jones supported the effort with 10 points and two blocks.
The Lobos took control of the game early, seizing the lead less than four minutes into the first half and maintaining it throughout the match.
Washington led the team with eight points in the first half, allowing New Mexico to go into halftime with a solid 30-20 advantage. In the second half, the Lobos further expanded their lead to 52-35, thanks to a 12-3 scoring spurt.
Notably, Dent shone during this period, scoring a team-high 12 points and ensuring that New Mexico remained on track for its winning streak.
