A tragic bus accident occurred on a highway in northeastern Germany on Saturday, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving an additional four individuals with serious injuries, according to local authorities.
The incident took place on an exit ramp from the A11 highway, leading to a parking area near an interchange close to Prenzlau, situated to the northeast of Berlin, as reported by regional news agencies. In addition to the serious injuries, seven other passengers sustained minor injuries.
The bus, which overturned and came to rest on its side, did not appear to involve any other vehicles in the collision. Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the accident, which occurred in challenging winter weather conditions. Among those who lost their lives were a 29-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man.
Beate Kardels, a spokesperson for the Brandenburg state police, indicated that the bus was operated by Flixbus, the leading long-distance bus service in Germany. The vehicle was traveling from Berlin to the Polish city of Szczecin, covering a distance of approximately 150 kilometers (93 miles) and carrying a total of 13 passengers along with the driver.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident. The community has been affected by the sudden loss of life and the serious injuries sustained by several others involved in the accident.
