VALPARAISO, Ind. — In a thrilling matchup, Valparaiso triumphed over Indiana State with a score of 98-95 in overtime on Wednesday night, led by an impressive performance from All Wright, who tallied 25 points. Tyler Schmidt secured the victory with a crucial layup with just 30 seconds remaining in the overtime period.

Wright showcased a strong shooting game, making 8 of 19 shots overall, including 2 of 4 from beyond the arc, and converting 7 of 8 free throws for the Beacons, who improved their record to 10-6 and 3-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Cooper Schwieger also made significant contributions, scoring 23 points with a shooting line of 6 for 12, including 3 for 6 from three-point range, complemented by a perfect 8 for 8 at the free-throw line, in addition to grabbing eight rebounds and blocking three shots. Schmidt added 23 points to the scoreboard as well, connecting on 7 of 12 attempts from the floor and hitting 7 of 8 from the stripe.

For the Sycamores, Samage Teel was the top scorer, posting 23 points along with seven assists and two steals. Jaden Daughtry supported the team with 16 points and seven boards, while Kmani Doughty contributed 15 points and two steals to keep Indiana State competitive. The Sycamores now hold a record of 9-7, also standing at 3-2 in the conference.

Valparaiso entered halftime with a slim lead, up 45-40, largely thanks to Schwieger’s 12-point performance in the first half. Though they were outpaced by Indiana State in the second half, the teams concluded regulation tied at 86-86. In the extra period, Darius DeAveiro stepped up for Valparaiso, contributing five points to help secure the win.

Looking ahead, both teams will be in action again on Saturday, as Valparaiso travels to take on Murray State, while Indiana State faces Belmont at home.
