KINGSTON, R.I. — In a competitive matchup on Wednesday evening, George Washington triumphed over Rhode Island with a final score of 75-67, largely thanks to the standout performance of Rafael Castro, who contributed 16 points to his team’s effort.
Castro demonstrated efficiency on the court, hitting 7 of his 10 shot attempts and converting 2 of 4 free throws. His teammates also played crucial roles, with Sean Hansen adding 12 points after making 4 of 10 shots, including 1 of 5 from beyond the arc, and going a perfect 3 for 3 at the free-throw line. Hansen also facilitated five assists for the team. Trey Autry rounded out the scoring for George Washington with 10 points by hitting 4 of 8 from the field and securing 10 rebounds, with 2 of those makes coming from 3-point land.
On the opposing side, the Rams were led in scoring by Sebastian Thomas, who notched 20 points, complemented by six rebounds and three steals. Quentin Diboundje contributed with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Jaden House finished the game with 10 points.
At halftime, George Washington held a 38-30 advantage, with Castro scoring nine points in the opening half to lead his team. The second half saw George Washington take control of the game by launching a 12-2 run that turned a 61-61 tie into a commanding 73-63 lead with just 1:33 left on the clock. Jacoi Hutchinson also made a significant impact in the second half, scoring 10 points.
Looking ahead, George Washington will face Duquesne at home on Wednesday, while Rhode Island is set to visit Richmond on Saturday.
