The Washington Nationals have officially signed infielder Amed Rosario to a one-year contract worth $2 million, as announced on Wednesday.
Rosario, who is 29 years old, had an impressive season last year, achieving a batting average of .280. Over the course of 103 games with the Tampa Bay Rays, Cincinnati Reds, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, he recorded 18 doubles, three triples, three home runs, and 32 runs batted in. Additionally, he showcased his speed with 13 stolen bases and contributed 29 runs.
In a related roster adjustment, the Nationals have designated right-handed pitcher Joan Adon for assignment.
This move marks another addition to the Nationals’ roster as they continue to enhance their team. Recently, they have also acquired first baseman Nathaniel Lowe through a trade with the Texas Rangers and brought in Josh Bell as a free agent.
Rosario is set to enter his 10th season in Major League Baseball. Originally from Santo Domingo Centro in the Dominican Republic, he has maintained a career batting average of .273 while playing for teams like the New York Mets, Cleveland Guardians, Dodgers, Rays, and Reds. Throughout his career, he has primarily manned the shortstop position but has also played second base, third base, and all three outfield spots.
