WACO, Texas — In a dominating performance, Baylor secured a 68-48 victory over Cincinnati on Tuesday evening, marking their 10th consecutive win at home.
Norchad Omier and VJ Edgecombe were standout players for Baylor, each contributing 18 points to the triumph. Omier reached a personal milestone, surpassing 2,000 career points and also captured 10 rebounds. He is now just 34 rebounds away from joining an elite group of players in NCAA history with 2,000 points and 1,500 rebounds. This match also marked the 70th time in the past three years that he has scored in double figures.
The game saw Baylor leading 22-18 with eight minutes remaining in the first half, but they quickly surged ahead with a remarkable 13-2 run, finishing the half with a 15-point advantage. Cincinnati struggled offensively, managing only one successful field goal in their last ten attempts in the first half.
During the second half, Cincinnati only managed to close the gap to 11 points at 39-28, thanks to a 3-pointer from Dan Skillings Jr.
For Baylor, Josh Ojianwuna added a complementary performance with 10 points and seven rebounds. On the Cincinnati side, Skillings was notable with 18 points, including five three-pointers, while Aziz Bandaogo managed to score 11 points. However, Cincinnati’s Simas Lukosius, who typically leads the team with an average of 13.6 points, struggled significantly, finishing with only five points on 2-of-7 shooting.
Previously ranked 19th in the AP poll, Cincinnati has faced setbacks, losing three consecutive games, with narrow losses to Kansas State and Arizona by a mere eight points combined.
Cincinnati is set to return home to face No. 11 Kansas on Saturday, while Baylor will travel to face Arizona State.
