BOSTON — Right-handed pitcher Walker Buehler has signed a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox that guarantees him $21.05 million. Additionally, the agreement allows for up to $2.5 million in performance bonuses contingent on the number of starts he makes throughout the season.

As part of his contract, Buehler will receive a signing bonus of $3.05 million and a salary of $15 million for the upcoming year. The contract also features a $25 million mutual option for the 2026 season, which includes a $3 million buyout clause.

In terms of bonuses, Buehler stands to make an extra $500,000 for reaching the milestone of 20 starts, with additional bonuses available for each subsequent pair of starts, up to a total of 28.

The 30-year-old player is a two-time All-Star and was part of the Los Angeles Dodgers team that secured the World Series championship last fall. However, his performance in the 2024 regular season saw him struggling with a record of 1-6 and a 5.38 ERA, following a year-long recovery from Tommy John surgery in the previous season.

Despite the difficulties during the regular season, Buehler showcased his skills in the postseason, finishing with a 1-1 record and a 3.60 ERA, which included a save. Notably, he pitched in Game 5 of the World Series against the New York Yankees, where he successfully closed out the game, striking out two batters and stepping in to secure a 7-6 lead.

Over his seven-year career, all spent with the Dodgers, Buehler has compiled an impressive record of 47 wins and 22 losses, coupled with a 3.27 ERA. His consistent performance has earned him recognition, including appearances in the top 10 for the prestigious Cy Young Award voting on two occasions.
