Tottenham Hotspur has officially announced the activation of an option to extend Son Heung-min’s contract, ensuring his stay at the club until 2026. This update was released by the Premier League team on Tuesday.

Son, who originally signed his deal in 2021, was set to become a free agent at the end of the current season. The club praised the South Korean forward, highlighting his evolution into a “global star” and a “modern-day great” during his tenure with Spurs.

Since arriving at Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, Son has made an impressive 431 appearances. At 32 years old, he captains the Spurs and is recognized as the club’s fourth all-time leading goal scorer, netting a remarkable 169 goals. Furthermore, he ranks 18th on the Premier League’s all-time scoring list, having scored 125 goals during his time in the league.

In the 2021-22 season, he achieved a significant individual honor by winning the Premier League’s Golden Boot. Additionally, Son boasts 131 caps for the South Korean national team, showcasing his impact both at the club and international levels.

The announcement regarding his contract extension was made just before Tottenham’s first leg of the English League Cup semifinal against Liverpool, scheduled for Wednesday.
