Rogers scores 18 to propel American past Holy Cross 75-64

WASHINGTON — In a solid performance, Matt Rogers contributed 18 points to help American University secure a 75-64 win against Holy Cross on Sunday.

Rogers displayed impressive shooting, making 5 of 8 attempts from the field and hitting 4 of 5 from long range, while also going perfect from the free-throw line. He was supported by teammate Matt Mayock, who added 17 points, shooting 6 for 9 and sinking 4 of 7 from behind the arc. Julen Iturbe also played a significant role, finishing with 11 points on a flawless shooting night, including 3 for 3 from three-point territory.

On the opposing side, the Crusaders were led by Max Green, who tallied 20 points and provided five assists. Joe Nugent contributed significantly, scoring 19 points and securing six rebounds. Caleb Kenney rounded out the scoring for Holy Cross with 14 points.

American took a narrow lead into halftime, up by four points at 30-26, with Rogers being the team’s top scorer for the half, netting eight points. The Eagles extended their lead in the second half, initiating an 8-0 run that allowed them to surge ahead by 11 points at 50-39 with just over 12 minutes remaining in the game, ultimately leading to their victory.

Both squads are scheduled to play again on Wednesday, with American traveling to face Boston University, while Holy Cross will host Navy.
