PULLMAN, Wash. — LeJuan Watts delivered a standout performance, finishing with a personal best of 24 points and securing 12 rebounds, leading the Washington State Cougars to a 91-82 win against the San Francisco Dons on Saturday evening.
As a sophomore, Watts excelled further by contributing five assists, marking his sixth double-double this season. The Cougars now hold a 13-3 overall record and are 3-0 in the West Coast Conference, having achieved four consecutive victories. Alongside Watts, Ethan Price added 20 points to the scoreboard, along with five rebounds, four steals, and three blocks. Dane Erikstrup supported the team with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Nate Calmese also contributed 18 points before fouling out. Freshman Tomas Thrastarson rounded out the scoring with 10 points and five rebounds in just his second start.
For the Dons, Malik Thomas was the standout player, scoring an impressive 34 points and registering three steals, but he too fell into foul trouble and eventually fouled out. Junjie Wang contributed 13 points, while Carlton Linguard added 10 points and seven rebounds. Robby Beasley made an impact off the bench with 10 points.
Washington State got off to a strong start, taking an early 11-0 lead. However, San Francisco battled back, thanks in large part to Thomas’ 27-point performance in the first half, allowing the Dons to grab a 49-48 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Price’s three successful free throws with 8:17 remaining put Washington State ahead 69-66, after which the Cougars distanced themselves from their opponents.
Looking ahead, Washington State will prepare to host the Pacific Tigers this Thursday, while San Francisco will return home to face off against Portland on the same day.
