Elon, N.C. — The Elon Phoenix secured a victory against the Hampton Pirates with a score of 70-62 on Saturday evening, thanks in large part to Nick Dorn’s impressive performance, contributing 24 points to the win.
In addition to his scoring, Dorn recorded five rebounds, playing a key role in the game for Elon, which moved to an 11-4 record overall and 2-0 in the Coastal Athletic Association. Complementing Dorn’s effort, Sam Sherry also put forth a strong showing, netting 20 points with an efficient 10-for-13 shooting from the field and hauling in 12 rebounds. TJ Simpkins added to the scoring with 11 points, converting 7 of 10 from the free-throw line, though he shot 2 of 6 from the field.
For the Pirates, Daniel Johnson led the way with 15 points and contributed three steals, showcasing his defensive skills as well. Noah Farrakhan supported the team with 14 points and four assists, while George Beale rounded out Hampton’s scoring with 10 points. This brought the Pirates to an 8-7 record with a 1-2 mark in the conference.
In the first half, Dorn scored 12 points, helping the teams head into the locker rooms with the Pirates holding a narrow lead of 32-30. The Phoenix quickly flipped the script in the second half, taking a two-point lead that expanded to ten points after a strong 10-2 run, making it 57-47 with 6:41 remaining in the game. Dorn continued his momentum from the first half, adding another 12 points in the second half, solidifying Elon’s lead and ultimately leading them to victory.
