BALTIMORE — In a thrilling matchup, Coppin State edged out North Carolina Central with a narrow 63-61 victory on Saturday evening.
Julius Ellerbe was a standout performer for Coppin State, contributing 16 points and securing eight rebounds for the Eagles, who now hold a record of 2-13 overall and 1-0 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Camaren Sparrow also played a pivotal role in the game, netting 14 points while showcasing his shooting skills with a remarkable 4-for-7 performance from the field, which included 4-for-5 from three-point range. Toby Nnadozie added to the offensive effort with 11 points, hitting 3 of 8 from the field, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, and securing two free throws.
For North Carolina Central, Po’Boigh King was the leading scorer, racking up 18 points. Teammate Perry Smith Jr. chipped in eight points, and Floyd Rideau contributed seven points to the team’s overall effort. North Carolina Central’s record now stands at 7-11, with a conference record of 0-1.
Both teams are set for action again on Monday, with Coppin State hosting South Carolina State and North Carolina Central traveling to face Morgan State.
