KALAMAZOO, Mich. — In the opening game of the Mid-American Conference on Saturday, the Toledo Rockets secured a 76-70 victory against the Western Michigan Broncos, with Sonny Wilson leading the charge by scoring 20 points.
In addition to his scoring, Wilson contributed with seven rebounds and five assists for Toledo, which improved to 7-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Sam Lewis was a significant presence in the game as well, finishing with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks. Andre Lorentsson added to the scoreline with 10 points, having made 3 of 9 attempts from the field, including two successful three-pointers out of seven attempts.
On the other side, Chansey Willis Jr. topped the score sheet for Western Michigan (3-10, 0-1) by putting up 21 points and recording seven assists. Javaughn Hannah also made his mark, contributing 13 points along with seven rebounds. Owen Lobsinger had an influential game, finishing with 11 points, securing 13 rebounds, and making two steals. This defeat marked the sixth consecutive loss for the Broncos.
Toledo entered halftime with a slight edge, leading 35-33. They then extended their lead in the second half, starting with a 7-0 run that established an eight-point cushion at 52-44 with just under ten minutes remaining in the game. Lewis played a key role in the second half, scoring 10 pivotal points that helped guide Toledo to victory.
