LOS ANGELES — Teoscar Hernández is set to take on the role of right fielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers next season as the team embarks on its quest to retain the World Series title.

The outfielder was spotted at Dodger Stadium on Friday after finalizing a deal with the team, worth $66 million over three years.

“I was determined to return, and I did everything possible to make it happen with the Dodgers,” Hernández expressed.

In the previous season, he played under a one-year contract valued at $23.5 million and showcased his immense talent by earning All-Star status, winning the Home Run Derby, and receiving a third Silver Slugger award, which came with a $1 million bonus. His contributions were pivotal in leading the Dodgers to victory over the New York Yankees in the World Series.

Hernández mentioned he fielded offers from other teams that could have netted him an additional $5 million to $6 million.

“For me, it wasn’t just about the money,” he explained.

He described the Dodgers as unique among teams.

“They instill confidence in me, something I didn’t really feel elsewhere,” Hernández stated. “They believe in my abilities, which really inspired me to excel while wearing a Dodgers uniform.”

Manager Dave Roberts expressed his enthusiasm regarding Hernández’s return.

“It’s not merely about acquiring the most skilled players; it involves on-field performance and playing the game in a particular manner,” he commented. “That creates an environment where teammates elevate each other and hold one another accountable. Teo meets every one of our criteria.”

Last season, Hernández achieved a personal best with 33 home runs and 99 RBIs. The 32-year-old maintained a batting average of .272 across 154 games.

“He consistently prioritized the team’s interests, and his genuine love for the game shone through in every matchup,” general manager Brandon Gomes noted. “His enthusiastic play allows him to thrive during crucial moments, keeping the team at the forefront and managing situations with composure.”

As Hernández takes his position in right field, Mookie Betts is set to transition back to shortstop, and newcomer Michael Conforto will occupy left field.

The support from Dodgers fans has made a significant impression on Hernández.

“I’ve felt appreciated by Dodgers fans since my first day here,” he remarked. “Their encouragement has been vital for my success last year. When you have that level of support, it motivates you to give 110 percent every game.”
