MURRAY, Ky. — Caden Boser played a key role in leading Illinois State to a 74-68 victory over Murray State on Thursday evening, contributing 17 points to the team’s success.
Boser recorded an impressive shooting performance, hitting 7 of 9 attempts, including 3 of 5 from the three-point line. Teammate Malachi Poindexter matched Boser’s scoring output with 17 points as well, showcasing his efficiency by making 5 of 9 field goals and sinking all five of his free-throw attempts, while also hitting two of four from beyond the arc. Johnny Kinziger rounded out the top scorers for the Redbirds with another 17 points, shooting 6 for 11 overall and connecting on 3 of 4 from the charity stripe.
For the Racers, Jacobi Wood was standout player, contributing 21 points along with four assists. He was supported by Kylen Milton, who added 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. AJ Ferguson also made his mark on the game, scoring 15 points as Murray State fought hard to stay competitive.
In a tightly contested match, Illinois State held a 33-25 lead at halftime, bolstered by Boser’s 11 points in the opening frame. Although the second half saw Illinois State outscored by two points, they managed to maintain their lead, with Kinziger stepping up to contribute 13 points after the intermission.
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to play again on Sunday, with Illinois State preparing to host Southern Illinois and Murray State planning to visit Drake.
