MIAMI — The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders initiated their Conference USA journey with a narrow 73-69 victory over Florida International. Jlynn Counter played a pivotal role in this triumph, contributing 17 points and securing five rebounds.

Counter’s performance was complemented by Camryn Weston, who tallied 15 points. Weston shot effectively, making 5 of 14 attempts from the field, including 2 of 6 from beyond the arc, while also converting 3 of 4 free throws. Both Essam Mostafa and Jestin Porter added to the score sheet, each finishing the game with 11 points.

On the opposing side, Vianney Salatchoum led the Florida International Panthers with an impressive 21-point performance. Asim Jones was also notable, contributing 15 points along with five assists, two steals, and two blocks. Dashon Gittens rounded out the scoring for the Panthers with 10 points and two steals.

The first half was competitive with Counter scoring eight points. At the break, Middle Tennessee was down 35-32. However, they regrouped in the second half, launching a decisive 13-2 run that turned a seven-point deficit into a 71-67 lead with just 14 seconds left.

Looking ahead, both teams are gearing up for their next matchups on Saturday. Middle Tennessee will face Liberty on the road, while Florida International will take on Western Kentucky at home.
