LYNCHBURG, Va. — In an intense matchup on Thursday night, Western Kentucky narrowly clinched a 71-70 victory over Liberty, thanks in large part to Julius Thedford. Thedford’s pivotal performance included 18 points, highlighted by a crucial 3-pointer that put his team ahead with just 32.2 seconds remaining in the game.

The Hilltoppers, now boasting a record of 10-4 and maintaining their position in Conference USA with a 1-0 standing, saw significant contributions from Tyrone Marshall, who tallied 12 points. Marshall showcased efficiency, connecting on 6 of 7 field goal attempts, though he struggled at the charity stripe, missing all his free throws. Additionally, Don McHenry also matched Marshall with 12 points, shooting 4 for 14 overall, including 1 for 4 from beyond the arc, while successfully converting all three of his free-throw attempts.

On the opposing side, the Flames of Liberty, who are now 12-2 and started their Conference play at 0-1, were led by Zach Cleveland.
