Brewers trade minor league LHP Mason Molina to Rangers for right-handed pitcher Grant Anderson

The Milwaukee Brewers have made a notable acquisition, bringing in right-handed pitcher Grant Anderson from the Texas Rangers in exchange for minor league left-hander Mason Molina. This transaction occurred on Thursday, following the Rangers’ choice to designate Anderson for assignment earlier in the week.

Anderson, 27, had a challenging season with the Rangers, posting an 0-1 record with an 8.10 ERA and securing one save across 23 relief appearances. Over 26 and two-thirds innings, he recorded 29 strikeouts, issued 10 walks, and conceded 11 home runs.

In the previous season, while competing for Triple-A Round Rock, Anderson demonstrated stronger performance, achieving a perfect record of 3-0, with a commendable 2.93 ERA and one save in 26 outings. His 2023 season also saw him finishing with a 2-1 mark and a 5.05 ERA across 26 relief appearances for the Rangers.

Mason Molina, the 21-year-old pitcher sent to Texas, was selected in the seventh round of the 2024 amateur draft from Arkansas. Last season, he made two starts for Class A Carolina, excelling with six strikeouts in five scoreless innings. Molina also showcased his skills during the postseason, featuring in one game for Carolina and another for Class A Wisconsin.

In a corresponding move to accommodate Anderson on their 40-man roster, the Brewers designated left-hander Tyler Jay for assignment. At 30 years old, Jay had a quiet season, finishing with no wins and a 4.70 ERA in five total appearances, split between the Brewers and the New York Mets.
