BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Samford University secured a decisive victory over the Citadel, winning the game 86-56 in their Southern Conference opener on Wednesday night. Trey Fort was a standout performer for the Bulldogs, contributing 19 points to the team’s success.

Fort displayed an impressive shooting performance, making 7 of 14 attempts from the floor, including 5 of 10 from beyond the arc. Supporting him, Rylan Jones added 18 points, making 6 of 9 from three-point territory while also facilitating the offense with six assists. Jaden Brownell contributed as well, finishing the game with 13 points after shooting 6 for 13 from the field, hitting 1 of 5 shots from long range.

On the other side, the Citadel’s efforts were led by Colby McAllister, who scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Brody Fox also made a notable contribution for the Citadel, scoring 10 points and registering three steals.

Both teams are scheduled to return to action on Saturday. Samford will head to Western Carolina, while the Citadel will host Chattanooga in their next matchup.
