LONDON — Authorities in London are on the lookout for a burglar who infiltrated a luxurious mansion while it was occupied, making off with more than £10.5 million ($13.2 million) in valuable jewelry, high-end handbags, and cash.
The residents of the estate, reported by local news sources to be a social media influencer and her husband, who works in property development, were away during the incident on December 7. However, several staff members were present, and a housekeeper narrowly avoided an encounter with the armed thief, as confirmed by the surveillance footage.
Detective Constable Paulo Roberts of the Metropolitan Police described the crime as particularly audacious, noting, “This is a brazen offense where the suspect has entered the property while armed with an unknown weapon.” This statement came as the details of the theft were shared with the public on Monday.
Among the high-value items stolen were a 10.73-carat diamond ring, diamond earrings, and a clip featuring gold, diamonds, and sapphires. Additionally, the thief also took handbags valued at approximately £150,000 ($189,000).
In an effort to apprehend the suspect, the homeowners have announced a substantial reward of £500,000 ($628,000) for any information that leads to his arrest and successful prosecution. They have also offered a bonus of 10% of the worth of any items that are recovered.
Investigators have reported that the burglar gained access to the mansion by climbing through a second-floor window. Footage captured by MailOnline showed the suspect walking down a hallway just a minute before a maid exited from an elevator in the same area.
Located near Regent’s Park, this residence is situated in one of the most affluent neighborhoods in London, highlighting the alarming aspect of this high-profile burglary.
