EVANSVILLE, Ind.
— In an impressive performance, Cameron Haffner scored 13 points to help Evansville defeat Missouri State 57-40 on Sunday, ending a challenging five-game losing streak.
The Purple Aces, now holding a record of 4-9 and 1-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference, saw Haffner connect on 5 of 12 attempts from the field, including three 3-pointers out of seven tries. Joshua Hughes contributed significantly with 11 points, nine rebounds, and four steals, while Tayshawn Comer also added 11 points to the scoreboard.
On the other side, Dez White led the Bears with 12 points, alongside four assists and six steals. Missouri State, currently at 7-6 and 0-2 in conference play, received additional support from Michael Osei-Bonsu, who recorded 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Zaxton King, who managed to score eight points.
At halftime, Evansville held a narrow three-point advantage, with Haffner scoring seven points during that period. The decisive moment came when Haffner drained a 3-pointer just 18 minutes and 44 seconds into the second half, allowing the Aces to retain the lead for the remainder of the game. In the second half, Evansville significantly outperformed Missouri State, outscoring them by 14 points.
With this victory, Evansville is looking to build momentum as they navigate the rest of their season, aiming to improve their standing in the Missouri Valley Conference.
