Anaheim, California — Noah Cates has reached a five-game goal streak, while Morgan Frost netted the decisive goal in the early stages of the third period, leading the Philadelphia Flyers to a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.
Joel Farabee contributed to the scoreline with another goal for the Flyers, who have recently faced challenges, losing four of their previous five matches. Samuel Ersson was strong in net, turning aside 31 shots during the game.
For the Ducks, Troy Terry managed to find the net, and Lukas Dostal recorded 22 saves. Frost’s goal came at the 5:57 mark of the third, despite being in a tight angle, as he cleverly banked his shot off the inside of Dostal’s stick with a backhand for his seventh goal this season.
Cates matched Nashville’s Jonathan Marchessault for the longest current goal streak in the league when he found the back of the net with a quick shot from close range at 4:03 of the second period, putting the Flyers ahead 1-0.
In notable moments from the game, Flyers right winger Travis Konecny celebrated his 600th career game, becoming the seventh player from the 2015 NHL Draft class to achieve this milestone. On the other hand, Ducks defenseman Radko Gudas sustained a lower-body injury during the third period, ruling him out for the rest of the game.
A crucial point in the matchup occurred when Farabee sealed the deal with an empty-net goal with just 2:20 left on the clock. The Ducks had pulled Dostal in favor of an additional skater during a power play but were unsuccessful in converting their chances. After serving a penalty for too many skaters, Farabee emerged from the penalty box, intercepted the puck near the blue line, and completed a breakaway to score.
In a noteworthy statistical detail, Ducks left winger Cutter Gauthier played for 13 minutes, registering two shots on goal and incurring a hooking penalty. This was his first game against the Flyers after being selected fifth overall by them in the 2022 draft but subsequently choosing not to sign, leading to a trade to Anaheim last year.
Looking ahead, the Flyers will face the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday, while the Ducks will host the Edmonton Oilers.
