EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The Indianapolis Colts have confirmed that their quarterback Anthony Richardson will not play in the crucial matchup against the New York Giants this Sunday.
Richardson was unable to participate in practice on both Thursday and Friday due to injuries affecting his back and foot. After initially being listed as questionable, he was officially ruled out on Saturday.
Indianapolis, currently standing at 7-8, finds itself with a narrow path to playoff contention. For the Colts to secure a postseason spot, they must win their remaining games while also relying on favorable outcomes from other teams.
With Richardson sidelined, veteran QB Joe Flacco is expected to take the lead against the Giants. Flacco, who hails from New Jersey and will celebrate his 40th birthday on January 16, has accumulated 1,167 passing yards and nine touchdown throws in six games this season, with four of those being starts. However, he has also recorded five interceptions during this campaign.
Standing out as a promising talent, Richardson was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. During his rookie season, he has thrown for 1,814 yards, along with eight touchdowns, but has also faced difficulties, contributing to 12 interceptions.
