Scottie Scheffler is facing a setback after suffering an injury to his right hand while preparing a Christmas meal, leading him to withdraw from the PGA Tour’s kickoff event held in Hawaii.
According to a statement from his manager, Blake Smith, Scheffler experienced a puncture wound in the palm of his right hand due to a mishap with broken glass. The injury resulted in small glass pieces remaining embedded in his palm, necessitating surgical intervention. Fortunately, doctors have indicated that he is expected to make a full recovery within the next three to four weeks.
As a consequence of this injury, Scheffler has withdrawn from The Sentry, a prestigious winners-only tournament scheduled from January 2 to January 5 at Kapalua Resort. His agenda now includes a return for The American Express tournament, set to take place from January 16 to January 19 in La Quinta, California.
In the previous season, Scheffler had an impressive run, capturing the Jack Nicklaus Award as the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year with a significant margin, making him only the second player—along with Tiger Woods—to win this award three consecutive times.
His remarkable achievements last season featured seven victories on the PGA Tour, including clinching his second Masters title, and he made history as the first player to win The Players Championship twice. Additionally, Scheffler secured an Olympic gold medal with an outstanding 62 on the final day and topped off the season by winning the Tour Championship, which earned him the coveted FedEx Cup.
