NEW YORK — On Christmas Day, a taxi driver drove onto a sidewalk in a busy Manhattan shopping area, injuring six pedestrians, as confirmed by the New York City police on Thursday. The incident occurred in Herald Square, which is a well-known shopping destination, particularly notable for its proximity to Macy’s flagship store.
According to authorities, the taxi driver was experiencing a medical issue when the accident took place. Though details about the nature of the medical episode were not disclosed, police indicated that there is currently no suspicion of criminal wrongdoing. The 58-year-old driver was transported to a hospital to receive care and was reported to be in stable condition following the incident.
Among the injured, two of the pedestrians were identified as Australians, as mentioned by the Australian foreign ministry, although no further specifics about their injuries have been provided.
