WOLVERHAMPTON, England — In a disappointing turn of events for Manchester United, team captain Bruno Fernandes has received a red card for the third time this season.
The Portuguese midfielder was dismissed in a Premier League match against Wolverhampton on Thursday after earning a second yellow card in the 47th minute. At that moment, the game was still level at 0-0, but United ultimately succumbed to a 2-0 defeat as Matheus Cunha scored directly from a corner, followed by a goal from Hwang Hee-chan.
Prior to this incident, Fernandes had been given red cards in consecutive matches, first against Tottenham during a league game on September 29 and then in a Europa League encounter against Porto on October 3. However, the dismissal in the match against Spurs was later overturned.
In the encounter with Wolves, Fernandes garnered his first booking for fouling Cunha with a trip late in the first half, and his second yellow came for a late challenge on Nelson Semedo.
The incident has sparked discussions about the disciplinary measures and the implications of repeated offenses for key players in the league.
