MONZA, Italy — Alessandro Nesta, a 2006 World Cup champion, was dismissed from his position as head coach of Monza on Monday following a disappointing record of just one victory in 17 matches in Serie A.
The club’s decision came right after they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home against Juventus.
In light of Nesta’s exit, Monza has brought in Salvatore Bocchetti, previously the coach of Verona, to take over the team.
Bocchetti has signed a contract that will keep him at the club through the 2026-27 season.
Nesta’s tenure with Monza began in June, and the only league win achieved under his leadership occurred in October when the team triumphed over Hellas Verona with a score of 3-0.
As a prominent figure in football, Nesta was part of the Italian national team that clinched the World Cup title in 2006 and had an illustrious career as a defender with clubs like Lazio and AC Milan.
In addition to his playing accolades, he has experience coaching teams such as Miami FC, Perugia, Frosinone, and Reggiana.
Looking ahead, Monza is set to face Parma on Sunday as they aim to bounce back from their recent setbacks.
