NORMAN, Okla. — Duke Miles delivered an impressive performance, scoring a season-high 29 points to help No. 14 Oklahoma secure an 89-66 victory over Central Arkansas on Sunday afternoon.
Jeremiah Fears contributed with 19 points while Jalon Moore added another 17 for the Sooners, who improved to 12-0, remaining one of the four undefeated teams in college basketball. The team achieved 33 of 68 shooting from the floor (48%), gained 40 points in the paint, and capitalized on the 12 turnovers committed by Central Arkansas to score 24 points.
Central Arkansas, now with a record of 3-9, saw Layne Taylor score 16 points, followed by Elias Cato with 13, and Ben Fox contributing 12 points. The Bears struggled from the field, making only 24 of their 64 attempts (38%).
At halftime, Oklahoma led 46-37, bolstered by an outstanding first half from Miles, who recorded 20 points on 7 of 9 shooting, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. This marks the second consecutive game where a Sooner reached the 20-point mark before halftime, as Fears had previously scored 20 of his 30 points early in a close 87-86 triumph over Michigan on Wednesday.
In the opening half, Central Arkansas managed to keep the score close, thanks to Fox’s proficient 3-point shooting, as he swished all four attempts from distance.
As the game progressed, the Sooners relied heavily on Miles in the first half and shifted the focus to Fears and Moore after the break. Fears was particularly potent, scoring 15 of his 19 points in the second period, while Moore added 11 points to the final tally as Oklahoma pulled away from their opponents.
A pivotal moment occurred when Central Arkansas narrowed the deficit to 54-47 with a 3-pointer from Taylor. However, Oklahoma responded with a formidable 13-1 run, extending their lead to 67-48 with just 9:35 remaining in the game.
In terms of statistics, Oklahoma dominated with an overwhelming 33-3 advantage in fast-break points.
Looking ahead, Central Arkansas is set to host Southwestern Christian on December 29, while Oklahoma will face Prairie View A&M on the same day.
