SAN DIEGO — In an exciting matchup on Saturday night, Tyler McGhie showcased his talent by netting 27 points, leading UC San Diego to a 77-71 victory over San Diego.
McGhie demonstrated exceptional shooting skills, hitting 9 of 20 attempts from the field, including an impressive 7 for 10 from beyond the arc. The Tritons, now boasting an 11-2 record, also saw strong performances from Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones, who contributed 17 points with a shooting accuracy of 5 of 8 and a perfect 7 for 7 from the free-throw line, coupled with six assists. Hayden Gray added 11 points to the scoreboard, shooting 4 of 8 from the field and converting 3 of 4 free throws, helping extend the Tritons’ winning streak to nine games.
For the Toreros, who fell to a 3-9 record, Joey Chammaa led the way in scoring with 14 points. Complementing his efforts, Santiago Trouet made a notable impact with nine points and an impressive 20 rebounds. Bendji Pierre also contributed with nine points of his own.
At halftime, UC San Diego held a narrow advantage over San Diego, leading 32-28. During the first half, Gray added nine points, setting the stage for McGhie’s pivotal performance in the second half, where he scored 19 points, ultimately guiding UCSD to a solid six-point win.
