OGDEN, Utah — In a thrilling conclusion to the game on Saturday night, Carter Welling led Utah Valley to a narrow victory over Weber State with a score of 64-62, contributing significantly with 22 points.
Welling showcased his all-around skills by also recording six rebounds and five blocks for the Wolverines, who improved their season record to 7-6.
Jackson Holcombe played an important role as well, scoring 13 points on an efficient shooting performance of 6 for 10 from the field, coupled with eight rebounds.
Dominick Nelson also made his mark, finishing with 13 points by converting 4 of 8 from the field and matching that from the charity stripe.
For the Wildcats, who now sit at 6-7, Nigel Burris shone as the top scorer with 17 points and secured 10 rebounds.
Blaise Threatt had a strong showing with 16 points and six steals, while Vasilije Vucinic added 13 points to the scoreboard.
Down the stretch, Welling had a chance to extend Utah Valley’s lead by grabbing an offensive rebound and drawing a foul, but unfortunately, he missed both free throw attempts with only 18 seconds left on the clock.
Then, Threatt seized the rebound for Weber State and attempted a contested three-pointer as time ran out, but the Utah Valley defense pressured effectively, ensuring the Wolverines held on for the victory.
