TUCSON, Ariz. — In a commanding performance, Caleb Love scored 24 points, matching his season-high, leading Arizona to a decisive 94-41 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday.
With this win, the Wildcats improved to 6-5, marking their first consecutive victories since starting the season with wins against Canisius and Old Dominion.
The game began with Central Michigan (5-6) taking the lead with the first three points; however, Love quickly orchestrated a turnaround by sinking three 3-pointers and amassing 18 points in the first half. By halftime, Arizona had established a substantial lead at 44-23.
The Wildcats displayed excellent shooting, achieving a 54.5% success rate from the field, including making 10 out of 29 attempts from beyond the arc. Their bench contributed significantly, generating 44 points, with K.J. Lewis leading the reserves by scoring 13 points on 4 of 8 shooting and a flawless 5 of 5 from the free-throw line. Tobe Awaka also made an impact with a double-double, contributing 10 points along with 10 rebounds. Arizona dominated rebounding, outpacing the Chippewas 45-27.
On the other hand, Central Michigan faced difficulties offensively, hitting only 14 of 54 attempts from the field, which equates to a mere 25.9% shooting average, and managing just 3 out of 16 from the three-point range. Cayden Vasko was the leading scorer for the Chippewas with 10 points, making 4 of 13 attempts, including 2 of 5 from long range.
Looking ahead, Arizona will kick off its Big 12 Conference schedule with a home game against TCU on December 30. Meanwhile, Central Michigan aims to end its three-game losing streak on the same day when it takes on Cleary at home.
